Questions, answered

The questions we get asked most before signing — engagement, pricing, technical scope, legal. If your question isn't here, just ask.

01
engagement

How we work together

  • What's the minimum engagement size?
10 hours for advisory, $15K for a fixed-scope project, or one engineer for one month for an embedded team. We don't take engagements smaller than that — there's not enough time to deliver real value.
  • Do you sign NDAs before the first call?
Yes. Send us your NDA and we'll counter-sign within a business day. We also have our own mutual NDA template if you'd prefer.
  • Can you work with stealth-mode startups?
Absolutely. Most of our fintech and healthcare clients are pre-launch. NDA, code-name, no public attribution — we'll respect whatever your stealth posture requires.
  • What timezones do you cover?
Our engineers are distributed UTC ±0 to UTC −8. We always have at least 4 hours of overlap with your team, regardless of location. For 24/7 retainers we run a follow-the-sun rotation.
02
pricing

Money & contracts

  • How do you bill — fixed price or T&M?
Both. Project engagements are fixed-price after the discovery sprint. Embedded teams are billed monthly per engineer. Advisory is hourly with a 10-hour minimum. Retainers are flat monthly with a defined SLA.
  • What if a key engineer leaves mid-project?
We guarantee continuity. Every project has a documented context handover doc maintained from day one. If we lose someone, we replace them within 5 business days with no loss of project velocity — at our cost.
  • Do you require long contracts?
No. Embedded teams are month-to-month after the first month. Retainers are 3-month minimum then month-to-month. Project work is one-time. We don't believe in handcuffing clients.
  • How does payment work?
50% on signature, 50% on delivery for projects. Net 30 invoicing for embedded and retainers. Wire, ACH, or crypto (USDC). We don't take credit cards for engagements above $5K.
03
technical

Technical scope

  • Which clouds do you specialize in?
Deep expertise across AWS, GCP, and Azure. Our engineers carry production certifications on all three. We also work with Hetzner, DigitalOcean, and bare metal when it's the right call.
  • Do you do greenfield or brownfield?
Both. About 60% of our work is brownfield migrations — taking existing infrastructure and modernizing it without downtime. The other 40% is greenfield platform builds for new products.
  • Will you work with our existing tools?
Yes. We're tool-agnostic. If you're on Jenkins and don't want to migrate to GitHub Actions, we'll make Jenkins work. We pick tools based on your team, not our preferences.
  • Can you train our team after delivery?
Always. Every project includes 2 training sessions for your engineers, plus runbooks and architecture docs. For embedded engagements we pair-program continuously, so knowledge transfer is built-in.
04
legal & compliance

Legal & compliance

  • Are you SOC 2 compliant?
We operate under a SOC 2-aligned ISMS. We can provide our security questionnaire, sub-processor list, and BAA template on request before signing.
  • Where is data stored?
We don't store client data on our infrastructure. All work happens in your environments via federated access (AWS SSO, GCP Workload Identity, etc). We hold no PHI or PII.
  • Who owns the code we write?
You do. All deliverables — code, architecture diagrams, runbooks — are work-for-hire and assigned to you on payment. We retain no rights and don't reuse client IP.
  • What's your incident response policy?
For retainer clients: 15-minute SLA on Sev 1, 1-hour on Sev 2. We run blameless postmortems within 5 business days of resolution. All incidents are tracked in your ticketing system, never ours.
